Saugus Youth Named AP Scholar with Honor
William J. Kemeza, President of Boston College
High School, is pleased to announce that
Sean Sanford of Saugus, a 2011 graduate of
Boston College High School, has been named an AP
Scholar with Honor by the College Board in
recognition of his exceptional achievement on
the College-Level Advanced Placement (AP)
Examinations.
At Boston College High, one hundred twenty-three
students received one of the four levels
of recognition from the College Board.
Thirty-one students, including Sanford,
qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor
Award, by earning an average grade of at least
3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of
3 or higher on four or more of these
exams.
About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million
students worldwide, who took AP Exams,
performed at a sufficiently high level to merit
the recognition of AP Scholar.
Boston College High School is a Jesuit,
Catholic, college-preparatory school for
young men founded in 1863. The school enrolls
approximately 1600 students from more than 100
communities in eastern Massachusetts. For

Holiday
Baskets from Saugus Federal

John Smolinsky, right, Vice President - Business
Development, and Marcella Walsh, Branch Manager
presented the baskets on behalf of the
employees.
Staff Donates
Saugus
Federal, a division of Webster First Federal
Credit Union, recently donated holiday baskets
filled with food and Thanksgiving-related items
to Saugus Police Patrolman Tom Jones, left, for
local families in need. The baskets were donated
by the credit union staff and distributed
through Saugus Community Policing. Each holiday
basket contained a 12 to 14 pound turkey and
over 20 pounds of additional food items. This is
the 21st consecutive year that the Saugus
Federal staff has donated food to families in
need during the holiday season.
Light Up the Lighting Fund!
The World Series Park Lighting Fund was
kicked-off on September 17 with the goal of
raising a quarter of a million dollars over five
years to purchase lights for the park. So far
$3,000 has been raised from the generous
donations of some Saugus residents. There’s a
long way to go. If the total amount is raised
before five years the installation can proceed.
Lights for World Series Park would increase the
amount of games that could be played and give
the park more flexibility. Even with all the
rain-outs, over 200 games were played during the
2011 season. Games would never have to be called
because of darkness. Parents who work during the
day would still be able to see their child play
baseball. Lights would attract more people to
the park to experience the “gem” of Saugus.
Bob Davis of World Series Park said “We’re
looking into all kinds of financial sources to
raise what certainly seems to be a staggering
amount of money. But, I think we can do it with
the perseverance we’ve demonstrated with
everything else we’ve done in building this
first-class facility.”
Donations are presently being accepted.
Donations of $100 or more will entitle the
donor’s name to be included on a permanent
plaque. Donations can also be made in memory of
an individual. A running total will periodically
be posted. Donations should be sent to World
Series Park 8 Holden Ave. Saugus, MA 01906.
Checks should be made payable to World Series
Park.
A great way to donate is through the General
Electric Matching Gifts Foundation. Any GE
employee, retiree or spouse of a deceased
retiree can qualify for GE to match the amount
of the donation. For information about this or
any questions about the lighting fundraiser
please contact Bob Davis at 781-233-4555.
